Talk of the much anticipated Nikon D700X DSLR is increasing exponentially.
From the popularity of the D700X online, one has to think sales for this DSLR are going to rock Nikon's world.
Everyone from the esteemed Nikon guru Thom Hogan to Super Photographer Chase Jarvis is chiming in on the Nikon D700X.
As to be expected, Nikon Rumors has been steadily posting about the D700X, and they've quoted Thom Hogan as saying he has inside information that the Nikon D700X will be out before November 2009! Please Santa! I'll be good! :)
I personally can't wait to see what the price is going to be. I've seen people claiming it will be as low as $3,500 USD to people claiming it will be $6,000 USD. Personally, I'm guessing $4599.99 (as I noted in my previous article, Nikon D700X vs Nikon D3X). I'm basing this on the price of the Nikon D3X, and the pricing of the Nikon D3 compared to the Nikon D700.
Sure I'd love to see the D700X come in at less at $4K or lower, but I doubt it. The D3X is still at $8K, so it makes no sense for Nikon to sell the D700X for less than half that. I may actually be quite low in my estimate. I could see Nikon pricing the Nikon D700X at $5599.99.
Gotta love the anticipation!

the D700x will not be 4000 USD. D700x is competing with Sony Alpha 900 (2000 USD). which has already 24 MP sensor.
Nikon uses Sonys sensors. so there is no way they will push the prices high. Already now, people are upset as the lenses went up. But I'm sure all will drop. PEOPLE STOP BUYING NIKON!!
I'd like to think you're right Mike, because I have to buy my DSLR's with my own money, just like everybody else.
However, consider the Nikon D700. It's still $2999.95 USD at B&H as of this morning when I just checked. The D3 $4699.99 USD. That's $1700 difference between the two.
The D3X is $7449.95 USD at B&H this morning. There is no way Nikon is going to come in at around $2000 USD on the Nikon D700X, $5500 less than the D3X.
First of all, the Sony A900 is $2699.99 USD at B&H (just checked this morning), so you're a little off on your pricing.
Second, the D700 is selling like hotcakes at $2999.99 USD, despite the Sony being a few hundred bucks cheaper.
The Nikon D3X is also selling well despite it's high price.
You have to remember that nothing on the market right now compares with the Nikon D700 or will compare with the Nikon D700X. They are/will be King of the DSLR's.
The Nikons are better built, have more features, have a better AF, and have better glass and glass selection than what Sony can offer.
Same thing where Canon is concerned. Nothing Canon has can touch the current line of Nikon DSLR's. There isn't a Canon made that focuses anywhere near as well as the Nikon D3, D3X, D700, or the soon to be D700X. Even my D300 has Nikon's high-end auto focus system which just kicks Canon's butt.
And I'm not even going to get into Canon's pathetic quality control as that would take hours to go over.
Remember too that Sony isn't a big player in the DSLR market yet. They're getting there, but they're a ways off yet. How many pro's do you know that shoot Sony? I don't know any.
So, as much as I'd like to see a Nikon D700X at $2K, there isn't the slightest chance it's going to happen. If anything, I'm low on my pricing guess and the D700X will more likely be $5000 to $5599.99.
People won't stop buying Nikon. It's the best system available right now.
The D700x has to compete with the Eos 5D MKII and the Sony A900, both of which are at $2699. They're already in for a record loss year and you think they're going to price the competitor to these two cameras I mentioned at double their price? Let's be realistic. If they do that, 2010 will be their new record loss year. IMO, they're best plan would be to go no higher than $3300. The lower they go, the more they will sell. Period.
I wish you were right Fred. I'd love a D700X at $3300.00.
The fact of the matter is that Nikon doesn't have to compete against the A900 and the 5D MK2. Neither comes close to what the Nikon D700X will be.
Nikon D700 DSLRs are flying off the shelf, despite costing more than the A900 and the 5D MK2 and having a 12 megapixel sensor. The reason is that the Nikon D700 is a better value, and that is why the Nikon D700X will still sell like hotcakes at $4,000 or $5,000 USD.
There really is no competition for the Nikon D700, nor will there be for the Nikon D700X. They are in a class of their own. Build quality, auto focus, features, construction, and image quality are superior to anything else out there. Add it all up, and you get the answer to why Nikon won't have to under-price their D700 or D700X.
Something people also forget is the FANTASTIC warranty Nikon offers. Nikon has 2 years on DSLR bodies, and 5 years on lenses. Compare this to Canon's 1 year warranty on DSLR bodies and lenses, and it aligns with the build quality and quality control of both companies.
Build quality and quality control is an area that Canon can't seem to do well at. I'd rather pay a little more for a well built DSLR that works, won't break, focuses great, and is backed by strong warranty like Nikon's, than buy something a little cheaper that has quality issues, focus problems, and a poor warranty so Canon doesn't have to pay to correct all their mistakes.
YMMV of course. :)
jeez why dont you fellas give nikon a real idea as to how they should price the new d700x or d700s, it has to beat the canon 5d mkII, period, there was a real buzz about at the 2009 pma about the canon hd vid and the price, officially canon have got 70% of the market, if nikon wanna be back up there , why not kick the canon 5d mkII,out the door and get back on top of the sales.....i reckon kick some canon ass and get competative with a real value packed good ole nikon edge....sudz

I don't know where these ridiculous prices come from. If Nikon chooses to price the d700x at 4500.00 they sure won't sell many bodies. There aren't that many lemmings out there. Also I and anyone else who bothers to check prices can purchase the D700 for $2350.00-$2370.00 (from a legitimate and respected dealer). As for the D700 selling like hotcakes---it is in stock almost everywhere----Can't say the same for the 5D Mark ll. In other words if they are not close to $3000.00 they will have a very difficult time moving product.
hey jack that price must be in us dollars , any info on where to pick up this D700 for those prices
cheers mate

Jack, I'm curious. Where are you able to purchase a Nikon D700 from a reputable dealer for under $2400?
I know you can find lots of scam artists offering D700 bodies for even less than that, but I have yet to see a reputable Nikon authorized dealer selling D700 DSLRs for anywhere near that low a price.
