Why You Should Buy ALL Your Photo Video Equipment in December of Any Given Year (and 10 Specific Items You Should Buy NOW During Boxing Day Sales!)

I always buy a lot of my yearly purchases before and after Christmas.

Sometimes it infuriates my family as it makes me a hard person to buy a Christmas gift for because there's a good chance I may have already bought an item if I saw it on sale.

Why, you ask?

Well, because you just aren't going to find the same SUPER sales that are on before and after Christmas during the rest of the year.  Stores make 70% and up of their yearly sales at Christmas time, and they discount hardest at Christmas time to make sure they achieve their yearly sales targets and make their sales revenue better than the last year.

And this is why you should buy almost everything you need at Christmas time.  No, I'm not talking groceries and weekly consumables like toilet paper, but office equipment, new camera gear, that lens you've been jones'ing for, computers, tablets, cell phones... almost everything is cheaper, WAY CHEAPER, in December of any given year (right before Christmas, and immediately following).

To illustrate my point, here's 10 Photo Video Items that you should buy NOW during Boxing Day Sales that you won't find at a better price throughout the rest of the year.

1) Lenses.  It doesn't matter whether you need a new mid-range f2.8 zoom like the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM Zoom Lens (on NOW for ONLY $569.99 at B&H), a longer telephoto zoom like the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM Lens (on NOW for ONLY $999.99 at B&H), or a fast prime like the Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM Lens (on NOW for ONLY $1619.00 at B&H), you are unlikely to find better deals on lenses at any other time of the year.

2) Cameras, either DSLR body only, or DSLR + Lens Bundles.  If you're looking to upgrade your DSLR, need a new pocket camera, want to try out M4/3, or need to add another video DSLR to get multiple angles for that big video shoot, December is the time to buy!  You're unlikely to get a Nikon D7000 SLR Digital Camera (Body Only) at a better price than $699.99, a Canon EOS 70D DSLR Camera Kit with 18-135mm and 70-300mm Lenses for less than $1548.00, or a Sony Alpha NEX-3N Mirrorless Digital Camera with 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens for lower than $398.00.

3) Accessories.  Whether it's memory cards like Compact Flash, SD, or Micro SD, camera bags, or a tablet for showing off your portfolio and checking email on the run, December is the time to buy.

What photographer or videographer couldn't use more or bigger memory cards?  BH has the SanDisk 32GB SDHC Memory Card Ultra Class 10 UHS-1 on for ONLY $23.95 (Reg. $35.95)

Regardless of what you need, NOW is probably the best time to buy it!

PLUS.... as a SUPER BONUS, you'll have spent the cash in time to write off these purchases on your income tax for that year.  Instead of giving the money to the IRS, you get to spend it on yourself on all this cool stuff!
